Cacao Berry Boost Smoothie for Natural Energy

As an OB/GYN, my schedule is often hectic. Cute newborns don't wait for you to have eight hours of sleep before they decide to invite you to their birthday parties. Here's a smoothie recipe I came up with over the weekend to give myself an energy boost. I hope it gives you the jump start you need for your fabulous day. Have a #TastyTuesday.

This recipe features arugula. Arugula is a vegetable that can be an acquired taste due to its bitterness. There are many reasons, however, to give this green a try. Arugula is high in antioxidants, which among many other benefits within the body, can help to prevent premature aging. I know all us ladies like to retain our youthful appearance.  Arugula also has high levels of phytochemicals, such as sulforaphane. These elements can help to reduce your risk of developing cancer. Since arugula is low in oxalates,  it won't interfere with the body's absorption of beneficial minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. Who knew you could eat greens to help your bones?! Finally, arugula is also a good source of folic acid, which is important when you are trying to or planning to conceive.

Here's the recipe.

Cacao Berry Boost

  • 1 Tbsp goji berries (NingXia Wolfberries) or 1 date for additional sweetness (Don't forget to remove the pit first !)
